Drafting Your Reality

Rick Brighton is one of the few elite architects in Park City who does initial concept renderings by hand. With the advent of 3D technology, hand drafting has become a lost art. While designing your future project by hand, the architect becomes intimately familiar with each and every corner of the home, providing the most precise craftsmanship available. 3D renderings are used to support the development of the project, but few can argue with the precision results of a hand-crafted Brighton design.

Understanding Our Design Process

Explore the design stages and better understand what it is like to craft a Brighton original.

Phase 1 - Schematic Design

Your project will be broken into several different phases, each with their own separate objectives and costs. The first phase is the schematic design phase. During schematic design, we get familiar with both you and your purchased land as we begin to develop your ideas into drawings. These sketches will go through rounds of review until we have an agreed upon product to begin the next phase.

Phase 2 - Design Development

This phase of your project is often perceived as the most exciting. During design development, you being to see your project come to life as your drawings are transferred into 3D models, using AutoCAD and Revitt.

The 3D modeling is imperative to giving you a true sense of scale and a realistic visualization of your project for design and construction, allowing us to catch any final changes before the next phase.

Phase 3 - Working Drawings

With the design and aesthetic of your project decided upon, the third and most important stage of design is creating the working drawings to begin construction and the permitting process. We add in all the behind the scenes necessities of the home during this phase: electrical, HVAC, plumbing, solar, geothermal, and more. You will also work with us to select the desired building materials for the actual structure of the home.

Phase 4 - Construction

As we enter the final phase of work, you will begin to transition over to working primarily with your chosen contractor. We serve as an advisor during this stage, providing any interpretations of the working drawings or 3D readings for your contractor. Throughout construction, it is likely that our interactions will decrease as your project furthers along. While we are always excited to see the final product, your contractor will take the lead on the construction phase of the project. Upon completion of construction, our contract will be complete, however we hope a lasting relationship will remain as you enjoy your new home!
